The NAR launched a new brand in 2019. Starting with the Summer 2019 issue, the rebranded issues of the NAR are larger at nearly 8.75x12 inches, and are perfect bound books, with matte cover stock and full color interior artwork.

The Fall 2024 issue features the winner of the 2024 Terry Tempest Williams Creative Nonfiction Prize. This issue also celebrates the 60 year anniversary of the NAR coming to Iowa by featuring visual art by 18 Iowa artists. Support for this project is provided by the National Endowment for the arts and the Iowa Arts Council, which exists within the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
